Fall Must Haves: Leather, Leather and More Leather

Every fall, regardless of the big fashion trends (military, boho, plaid, etc.), you can always count on denim and leather to update your wardrobe.   Timeless, chic, and incredibly versatile – you just can’t go wrong with these two mainstays.  I literally wear a piece of leather every day throughout the fall and winter seasons.  It’s easy, goes with everything, and adds an edge without trying to hard.  This season, I’m loving all the newness in leather sportswear, especially in tops and skirts.  Whether it’s a new shape, details, mixed fabrics or color, there are a lot of great options.  For denim, it’s still all about skinny or straight jeans in dark washes with updated details in seaming and hardware.  (More to come on that later.)  Combine what’s in your closet already, and take note of my favorite new pieces for a quick fall wardrobe update:

Vince wrapped seam pants
Leather pants:
the leather legging has been a staple the past few years, and it will be again.  But if your craving something new, look for a slightly looser shape like this wrap seam pant from Vince.  I suggest buying it fairly fitted so when it eases up with wear you don’t lose all your shape.

Leather Skirts are super important for fall, especially the “circle skirt” in many different lengths.  Honestly, I don’t think it’s a flattering shape on anyone except a runway model.  Instead, I suggest the classic pencil, mini or this one from ASOS.  I love that it gives the illusion of drape and fullness but is still flattering.

Dresses: I am a dress girl by nature, and I love that I now have cool options for fall and winter.  The new collection from  LaPina by David Helwani combines leather and knits, and is a perfect blend of shape and comfort, not to mention the fabulous fall colors.

There are tons of options in shape, color and fabric mixing.  My personal favorite is the Yulia L sweater by Theory – long sleeve and mixed with cashmere.  Can it get better?  For a sleeveless streamlined piece, I’m obsessed with this Reed Krakoff top. And for a great starter piece, look at the Trouve leather panel tee . You will love any one of these and wear them a ton all season.

Happy Shopping!
