A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body

I am a firm believer in daily fitness.  I love being active, but more importantly, I love the feeling I get after I workout.  My body feels strong, my mind is clear, and my soul feels nourished.  Being a total water person, my preference is always to do something in the water ~  open water swimming,  stand up paddle boarding, or even surfing.  Lately,  I’ve been forcing myself to get up early to meet friends for a pre-work lake swim.  There is something about the calm water in the morning that is so serene  and peaceful.  It’s a subtle combination of total fitness mixed with meditation.   Whether you are going for a run, hitting the gym, or doing yoga, working up a little sweat will leave you more connected to yourself.

Speaking of sweat, don’t forget to stay hydrated.  Of course you need to drink plenty of water, but don’t rule out the hydrating benefits of fruit and vegetables.  Watermelon, oranges and grapefruits are great choices that are full of water not sugar.  I’ve been known to carry around a bag full of celery sticks to satisfy both the crunch craving and need for extra fluids.  I found a great article with some additional information ~ http:/www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/healthy-beverage
