Best of Summer: Swim Suits

Summer… or as I call it, bikini season is in full swing. Whether it’s an upcoming vacation, a weekend at a lake house, or just a few free days to lounge by a pool, there’s still time to find a flattering swimsuit.  Like finding the perfect jean, finding the perfect swimsuit is much easier said than done.   It can be overwhelming and daunting to say the least – what brand, what silhouette, what color, what store… and many more unknowns turn this shopping experience into one of the most dreaded.

My years in the pool combined with being a swimwear buyer at Nordstrom, and  my habit of perpetual vacationing have made me a bit of a self proclaimed swimwear expert .

So, here’s the deal:

For maximum tanning and no-nonsense cool style, I like triangle tops and side tie bottoms.  Letarte is my brand of choice, founded and designed on Maui, need I say more. Another great brand with amazing prints and minimum coverage is Maaji, incorporating a cool Columbian aesthetic.

A halter top and slightly fuller bottom allows fitness without compromising fashion.  My favorite is Vix. For a little more glam and a higher end fabric, I love Melissa Odabash. When I say active, I’m talking SUP (stand up paddling) or a little easy beach volleyball – nothing too crazy.

Not interested in tan lines?  Go with a bandeau in print or solid from J Crew. With the neck strap, it’s actually quite sporty as well. Beach Joy is another one of my favorites. The prices are so great, I never feel guilty getting a little sandy in these.

Before you don your new suit, don’t forget to polish your skin with a little shimmer lotion.

Prtty Peaushun shimmer lotion

There are a lot of different lotions out there, but I absolutely swear by Prtty Peaushun. Created by a renowned celebrity make up artist, this lotion bronzes, shimmers, and tightens skin. A friend of mine introduced me to it about two years ago and I have been religious about it ever since. My beach bag always has a bottle of this miracle cream- it looks that good!
