The SimpleThings In Life: A Fashionable Table

post Image

I love entertaining at home.  I often set the table a few days in advance, even before I decide on the menu. It’s creative for me, and I love preparing something beautiful for my family and guests.  Even if the meal is fairly simple, a well set table creates a mood that makes the time together feel a bit more special.

We have dinner with my in-laws regularly. Without fail, my mother-in-law sets the table beautifully and in some sort of theme.  Provence, Italy, Hawaii — great places, yummy food.  Her extra effort is both an expression of love and a dedication to subtle details, often overlooked by the rest of us.  She refers to  it as “merchandising the table” – a lesson she says, looking at me,  that she learned from “the best” (I don’t know about that, but I’ll take the compliment!).

This Mother’s Day, I’d like to thank my mother-in-law for leaving a lasting impression on all of us by paying attention to the simple things in life. She has helped instill the tradition of being the “hostess with the mostest” in my girls and me – something that we will carry with us as a demonstration of love for our friends and family. I am a firm believer that if you’re going to do something, take a little extra time and do it well.  And do it beautifully because it shows you care.

Xo –
