The Perfect Cocktail(s)

post Image

All winter we have been going through red wine. From full-bodied Cabernet and Merlot, to lighter varieties such as Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Now that spring is officially here, it’s time to shake things up, literally.

I’d like to share my favorite cocktail as well as a few other crowd favorites.

The Perfect Margarita – my signature cocktail

2 oz. Tequila Reposado (Don Julio or Herraduras are my favorites)

1 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice

1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice

1 tbsp. light agave

bitter lemon soda (Fever Tree)

Fill your shaker with ice; add the Tequila, lemon and lime juices, and agave.  Shake well until your cocktail is nice and chilly, and the agave is completely dissolved.

Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice and top with a splash of bitter lemon soda.  Garnish with a wedge of lime.

The Clementine Cocktail – if you must drink something other than Tequila

Makes 1 cocktail

2 oz. Vodka (Kettle One)

1 oz. clementine juice and 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice

1 oz. simple syrup (I like to make my own)

clementine segments for garnish

splash of soda

Fill your shaker with ice, add the Vodka, clementine juice and simple syrup.  Shake well until your cocktail is nice and chilly.

Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice, and add a couple of clementine segments for garnish.

The Aperol Spritz – for a little Italian nostalgia

3 oz. Prosecco

1 oz. Aperol

splash of Gin (Bombay sapphire)

splash of soda water or sparkling water

garnish of orange

Pour the sparkling wine into a glass of ice cubes.  Add the Aperol and then a splash of sparkling water.  Float a nice thick slice of orange on top – it will infuse the drink with orange-y goodness even more as you sip.

These drinks are sure to be a hit amongst your social circle and spice things up as we approach the warmer months.
